The premium compact sedan market is on fire. Mercedes sells about 30,000 CLA sedans per year and Audi sells just as many A3s yet there is nothing in the US line up that competes.
The 1 Series sedan is based on the UKL2 platform that also underpins the new MINI Clubman and the second-generation X1. It also uses the same 238HP B48 engine as the X1. BMW could easily build a US Spec model using X1 parts and engines.
I believe that priced right and with content that is on par with the A3 and CLA, make AWD an option and BMW will have a hit in its hands. How awesome would it be to have a great entry level baby 3 series?
