All the new BMWs are ditching the CD player. This is far from a new phenomenon as some brands have been doing this for years now. If you want to listen to your old CD collection you have two choices: 1 Download all your music to a USB drive. 2 Install the BMW accessory CD player retrofit.
To install this retrofit takes about one hour of labor and your dealer will need to order two parts:
BMW CD player retrofit kit: 62-12-2-451-536 $244 MSRP
Retrofit kit folding holder: 65-12-2-451-539 $95.54 MSRP

Apple just released the second beta version of iOS 13.4 update. This update will allow BMW to finally let iPhone users use their NFC capable devices (iPhone and Apple Watch) to unlock and start their cars.
BMW will still need to update the Connected Drive app so expect this function to perhaps arrive at the fall.
BMW customers with a Premium Spotify account and a compatible vehicle can now stream Spotify music directly in their BMW without having to use a Smartphone app.
- The customer must sign in from the vehicle for the first time only, which can be done by scanning a QR code on their mobile device or manually entering their user name and password using the iDrive.
- Data charges are covered by BMW. That is, Connected Music with Spotify uses the vehicle’s embedded cellular connection, and not the customer’s data connection, to stream music.
BMW to offer wireless integration from mid 2020.
Munich, Germany- December 11, 2019… The BMW Group is extending the reach of seamless connectivity in its vehicles with the introduction of Android Auto ™ starting in mid 2020. Android Auto, the latest digital and user centric service addition to BMW will allow customers to connect their Android smartphones wirelessly with their vehicle and, in doing so , enjoy access to useful information like suggested destinations and upcoming appointments just when it is needed.
Plug & play out, wireless in Android Auto is a simpler, safer way to use the smartphone in BMW vehicles , making it easy to access music, media and messaging apps. The wireless connection makes the process of linking up an Android smartphone to a BMW extremely user friendly with a simplified interface Added to which, Android Auto is integrated directly into BMW’s fully digital cockpit, meaning that customers can view all important information not just on the central Control Display but also in intelligently adapted form in the instrument cluster’s Info Display as well as in the Head-Up Display, where it appears directly in the driver’s driving direction.
“The Google Assistant on Android Auto makes it easy to get directions, keep in touch and stay productive. Many of our customers have pointed out the importance to them of having Android Auto inside a BMW for using a number of familiar Android smartphone features safely without being distracted from the road, in addition to BMW’s own functions and services. We will offer this service to our customers starting in July 2020.”
– Peter Henrich, Senior Vice President, Product Management BMW
